What is Lightning Blackjack?

Lightning Blackjack is a table game on par with baccarat, roulette, and classic blackjack. Just like in traditional blackjack, the objective of Lightning Blackjack is to achieve a higher score than the dealer without exceeding 21. The best hand in this version of the game remains blackjack. To obtain a blackjack, the sum of your first two dealt cards must be exactly 21—no more, no less. Other players are not your opponents; your only opponent is the dealer. Unlike classic blackjack, the number of players is not limited.

You might be wondering what sets it apart from regular blackjack. In the Lightning version, your winnings are not just doubled when you win a hand. In fact, you can win between 2 and 25 times your bet!

Rules of Lightning Blackjack

As we briefly mentioned earlier, let’s now take a closer look at the rules of Lightning Blackjack. If you already play classic blackjack, you won’t feel lost, as the rules are largely identical.

  • The game is played with eight decks of 52 cards
  • The game is hosted by a live dealer
  • Cards from 2 to 10 are worth their face value
  • Tens and face cards (jacks, queens, kings) are each worth 10 points
  • Aces can be worth 1 or 11, whichever is more favourable to the player

An unlimited number of players can participate at the same time. Once the betting period ends, the dealer will deal one face-up card to each player and then another face-up card to the players. The dealer then draws a second card for themselves, which remains face down.

Lightning Rules

You must place a mandatory “Lightning Fee”, equal to 100% of your initial bet. This gives you a chance to obtain a multiplier for your next hand. If you double down or split your hand, the Lightning Fee remains unchanged.

Once bets are closed, Lightning multipliers appear. To benefit from a multiplier, you must have won your previous hand with one of the following outcomes: 17 or less, 18, 19, 20, 21, or blackjack. Winning hands will then apply a multiplier ranging from x2 to x25.

Lightning Blackjack Multiplier

You just won your last hand but need to take a break from playing? No worries—Evolution Gaming allows you to keep your multiplier for your next game for up to 180 days. For example, if you bet 10 CAD and win a hand with a x5 multiplier, you win 50 CAD and also get back your initial bet.

Splitting and doubling your hand

When you split a hand, the multiplier will be applied to the hand with the highest multiplier. In the event of a tie, you lose the Lightning Fee and your multiplier, but you recover your initial bet. If you use the insurance function, the Lightning commission and your multiplier are lost.

For all other rules, they are exactly the same as in classic table blackjack. You can find a detailed review of the rules of Evolution Blackjack here.
